This course is intended to provide emergency responders and employees with an overview of the skills and techniques typically used in responding to poisonous gas releases. This training will aid significantly those responders who have not used these techniques in their day-to-day duties and responsibilities in the past. Trainees will learn how to use the “Emergency Response Book” ERG and will receive a hard copy

Course Outline
Day - 1
Understanding Poisonous Gases and Risk Assessment
Participants will begin with an in-depth exploration of poisonous gases, including their characteristics, classifications, and potential hazards.
Through interactive discussions and case studies, they will gain an understanding of the toxicity, reactivity, and health effects associated with different types of poisonous gases commonly encountered in HazMat incidents. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of hazard identification, risk assessment, and control measures to minimize exposure and prevent adverse health effects.
The afternoon session will focus on risk assessment and management strategies specific to HazMat incidents involving poisonous gases.
Participants will learn how to identify and evaluate chemical hazards, assess the risks associated with different tasks and processes, and implement control measures to minimize exposure and prevent accidents.
Hands-on exercises and scenario-based simulations will provide practical experience in conducting risk assessments and developing safe work practices for handling poisonous gases.
Day - 2
Safe Handling Practices and Emergency Response
Building on the knowledge acquired on day one, participants will delve into safe handling practices for poisonous gases, including proper storage, handling, and transportation procedures.
They will learn how to select and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and respiratory protection to minimize exposure and ensure workplace safety.
Topics will include gas detection and monitoring techniques, emergency shutdown procedures, and evacuation protocols.
The afternoon session will focus on emergency response protocols for incidents involving poisonous gases. Participants will learn how to effectively respond to gas leaks, releases, and exposures, including procedures for containment, evacuation, and decontamination.
Case studies and role-playing exercises will provide opportunities to practice emergency response techniques and enhance communication and coordination skills among team members.
The course will conclude with a review of key concepts covered throughout the training, empowering participants with the knowledge and skills to handle HazMat accidents involving poisonous gases safely and effectively.
