DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSE
Upon completion of this course trainees will have the knowledge and skills necessary to drive any vehicle safely by implementing the 5 seeing habits & other safety vehicle driving measures.
The purpose of this course is for an individual / motorist/ driver to know:
- What defensive driving means and how to use it to prevent collisions
- The difference between good driving and defensive driving
- How to recognize and avoid hazards on the road
- How emotions, physical and mental condition – their own and other drivers – affect their safety
- How to chose safe and legal driving behaviors

- The effect of light, weather, road and traffic conditions on driving
- Why occupant protection is so critical to driver and passenger safety
- The most common driving errors and how to avoid them
- Driving and traffic conditions that we cannot control

Course Outline
The theory presentation will be based upon the six key principals of defensive driving to be assessed in the practical session.

The theory session will last approximately two hours and will be delivered by Power Point Presentation with participant questions and answers incorporated into the delivery.
Following the presentation each participant will be given a short multiple-choice test and a test relating to the Power Point Presentation.
VEHICLE FAMILIARITY
Prior to embarking on the practical element of the course, participants will have a 10 minute briefing on the basic controls of the vehicle being used, this will ensure that each participant is familiar with the vehicle in which they will be assessed thus ensuring a fair evaluation of their driving.
