Course Objectives
- Identify the characteristics and hazards associated with hazardous chemicals, including physical, chemical, and health hazards.
- Understand the importance of proper handling, storage, and transportation procedures to minimize the risk of accidents, spills, and exposures.

Course Outline
Day - 1

- Understanding Hazardous Chemicals and Risk Assessment
- Participants will begin with an overview of hazardous chemicals, including their characteristics, classifications, and potential hazards. Through interactive discussions and case studies, they will explore the various physical, chemical, and health hazards associated with different types of chemicals commonly encountered in the workplace.
- Emphasis will be placed on understanding the importance of hazard communication, including labeling requirements, safety data sheets (SDS), and chemical inventory management.
- The afternoon session will focus on risk assessment and management strategies for working with hazardous chemicals. Participants will learn how to identify and evaluate chemical hazards, assess the risks associated with different tasks and processes, and implement control measures to minimize exposure and prevent accidents. Hands-on exercises and scenario-based simulations will provide practical experience in conducting risk assessments and developing safe work practices for handling hazardous chemicals.
Day - 2
- Safe Handling Practices and Emergency Response
- Building on the knowledge acquired on day one, participants will delve into safe handling practices for hazardous chemicals, including proper storage, handling, and transportation procedures.
- They will learn how to select and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and engineering controls to minimize exposure and ensure workplace safety.
- Topics will include ventilation systems, spill containment measures, and emergency eyewash and shower facilities.
- The afternoon session will focus on emergency response protocols for incidents involving hazardous chemicals. Participants will learn how to effectively respond to chemical spills, leaks, and exposures, including procedures for containment, cleanup, and decontamination.
- Case studies and role-playing exercises will provide opportunities to practice emergency response techniques and enhance communication and coordination skills among team members.
- The course will conclude with a review of key concepts covered throughout the training, empowering participants with the knowledge and skills to handle hazardous chemicals safely in their workplace.
